Can I use superscript “TM” in place of the trademark symbol?

Yes.

If the font you’re using does not include the symbols for trademark or service mark you can, of course, substitute superscript letters, e.g.:

Trademark ᵀᴹ
Service mark ˢᴹ

Since Unicode lacks an uppercase superscript letter ‘S’, do use a word processor’s option to reduce the size of a regular uppercase letter and raise it above the baseline instead if possible.
