To move a task from one list in Microsoft To Do to another custom list:
- Click on the task you want to move with the right mouse button.
More than one: You can also select multiple tasks; use Ctrl (Windows and Linux) or Command (Mac) to add or remove tasks from the selection or Shift to select a range.
- Select Move Task to… (or Move Tasks to…) from the context menu that has appeared.
Copying: To copy instead of moving, choose Copy Task to… (or Copy Tasks to…); this also lets you effectively duplicate a task in MS To Do.
- Now choose the list to which you want to move the task.
Dragging: You can also drag and drop tasks onto lists in the sidebar to move them.
“My Day”: Use the task’s context menu to add a task to the My Day list.
Smart lists: Tasks show up on smart lists (such as Planned and Completed) because of their criteria; you cannot move items to any such list directly.

To move a task to a different list in the Microsoft To Do app for iOS and Android:
- Tap the three dots menu icon on the list that currently holds the task or tasks.
- Select Edit from the menu that has appeared.
- Now tap to select all tasks you want to move so they are selected.
- Tap Move in the toolbar.
- Choose the list to which you want to move the task or tasks.
You can also use a form of dragging and dropping:
- Tap and hold the task.
- Keeping the finger on the screen, move the task over < Lists.
- Now move it to the desired list, then release.

Can I set the list using a task’s details?
No.
A task’s details do not include its list for editing in MS To Do.
Can I remove a task from custom lists?
Yes.
To keep a task in Microsoft To Do without having it assigned to a specific custom list:
- Move the task to the list Tasks.
Can I move a task from a shared list?
Yes.
You can move a task from a shared list to one that is only visible to you in MS To Do. The task will disappear for other list members, and if it was assigned to a person, that information is removed.
