To create a new folder for email in Mail for iPhone and iPad:

  1. Go to the Mailboxes list in iPhone Mail.

    Here’s how: From any existing folder (such as the Inbox folder, for instance), tap < Mailboxes.

  2. Tap Edit in the top right on the Mailboxes screen.

  3. Select New Mailbox in to bottom right now.

    Selecting an account: You need not pick the account or parent folder now; choose it later during folder creation.

  4. Type the name you want to use for the new folder over Name under New Mailbox.

    Example.For a folder that collects your emails about a trip to volcanic Islands off the African coast, use Cabo Verde, for instance.

  5. Now tap the empty field under MAILBOX LOCATION.

    No folder without a parent: You cannot create an email folder in iPhone Mail that does not belong to an account’s root or is the c child of another folder.

Can I change the name of a folder?

Yes, for custom folders you can, of course, edit the name.

  1. Go to the Mailboxes screen.
  2. Tap Edit.
  3. Now tap the folder whose name you want to change.
    Fixed name: Note that you cannot select system folders such as the inbox—and cannot change their name either.
  4. Edit the name as needed.
  5. Tap Save.

Can I move a folder in iPhone Mail?

Yes.

To move a folder to the root or a different parent folder in iPhone Mail:

  1. Open the Mailboxes list in iOS Mail.
  2. Tap Edit.
  3. Select the custom folder you want to move.
    Only custom folders: You can only move email folders you have added to the account but not system folders such as trash, inbox, etc.
  4. Tap the current parent folder (or account name) under MAILBOX LOCATION.
  5. Now tap the desired parent so it is checked.
  6. Tap Save.
