“Yes, I have.” “Thank you!” “I don’t know.” Outlook suggests these replies as supposed shortcuts, but are as helpful as a fork for soup, and you end up rewriting anyway? How to Disable Suggested Replies and AI Writing Assistance in Outlook

Outlook for Windows

Time needed: 3 minutes

To turn off suggestions from AI in Outlook for Windows:

  1. Select File in Outlook.

  2. Select Options.

  3. Go to the Mail category.

  4. Disable Show suggested replies under Replies and forwards.

  5. Disable Show text predictions while typing under Compose messages.

  6. Click OK.

To disable spelling and grammar checks using Microsoft Editor:

  1. Select File | Options in Outlook.
  2. Go to the Trust Center category.
  3. Click Trust Center Settings….
  4. Select Privacy Options.
  5. Now click Privacy Settings….
  6. Disable Turn on experiences that analyze your content.

  7. Click OK a total of three times to close all dialogs.

Disable AI Suggestions in New Outlook and Outlook on the Web

To disable suggested replies and AI text suggestions in New Outlook and Outlook on the Web:

  1. Click the Settings gear icon.
  2. Go to the Mail category.
  3. Select Smart suggestions.
  4. Turn off Show suggested replies to disable reply suggestions.
  5. Disable Suggest words or phrases as I type to stop Outlook on the Web from completing your sentences.
  6. Now go to the Copilot category.
  7. Disable Turn on Copilot.

Outlook for iPhone and Android

To turn off suggested replies and text auto-completions in Outlook for iOS and Outlook for Android:

  1. Tap your avatar in he top left column.
  2. Now tap the settings gear icon.
  3. Go to the account for which you want to disable reply suggestions or predicted text.
  4. Disable Suggested Replies under Account Settings.

To disable server-side text analysis:

  1. Open Outlook mobile settings (see above).
  2. Select Privacy Settings.
  3. Disable Analyze Content.
