How to Hide Email from Search on iPhone

Tired of all those pointless emails showing up when you search your iPhone? Find out here how to hide email from search on iPhone while still allowing precise search in Mail.

First, Universal Time Coordinated

Some consumers love green cushions, and some adore orange cushions.

“Aha,” you think.

“A-ha! I’ll make olive-colored cushions, and everybody will buy them.”

Turns out nobody wants cushions that look like spinach cooked for too long and then left out to oxidize for a few hours.

UTC is a bit like the olive-colored cushion among abbreviations—with good reason, of course—, neither “TUC” for the French Temps Universel Coordonné nor “CUT” for Coordinated Universal Time.

Speaking of cut… how about cutting emails from search results on an iPhone?

How to Hide Email from Search on iPhone: FAQ

Can I remove only one email account from iPhone search results?

No.

You can remove entire applications’ content from appearing in iOS search results, but you cannot selectively hide email accounts.

A workaround is using a specific email program only for the account you never want to show up in results and all other accounts in a different email program, then remove the former app’s content from iPhone search.

Can I still search inside Mail or another email program?

Yes.

If you prevent content from showing up in global iPhone search results, you can still search emails in Mail or another email app.

Can I delete emails right from search results or otherwise act on them?

While you can preview emails from Mail in iPhone search (long-tap them), you cannot directly act on them.

To delete an email you have found using iPhone search:

  1. Tap the message to open it.
  2. Now delete it in Mail.
Bulk-delete: You can quickly delete multiple emails in iPhone Mail. too.
