How to Create a New Yahoo Mail Email Account

Time needed: 10 minutes
To create and set up a new Yahoo Mail email account together with an @yahoo.com email address:
- Visit the Yahoo email address sign up page.
- Enter your name in the Full name field (which turns into fields for first and last name).
Email sender name: You can later set the name that appears when you send emails from Yahoo Mail separately.
- Pick a username for your new Yahoo email address and type it over New Yahoo email.
- Type the password for your new Yahoo email account over Create password.
How long: Yahoo mail requires the password to be at least nine characters long; longer than that is better, though.
Too easy: Yahoo also scans for passwords that are too easy to guess—passwords like 123456789, for instance. - Now enter your birth year under Birth year.
Here’s why: Your birth year is used to (roughly) calculate your age, which is necessary to comply with laws and regulations in many regions.
- Click Continue.
Important: Check Yahoo’s privacy policy and terms of using the mail service before clicking.
- Enter your phone number or an existing email address.
Here’s why: This step is mandatory, and the phone number or email address will be used to send you verification codes, so make sure you can receive SMS text messages if you are using a phone number.
- Click Send code.
- Enter the verification code received and click Confirm.

How long does a Yahoo address have to be? Is there a minimum size?
The username for your new Yahoo email address must be
- at least 4 characters long,
- and there is no specific maximum length.
General: The maximum length of an email address does apply, of course.
For example, mem@yahoo.com is too short while meme@yahoo.com is ok.
Can I set up (and link) multiple Yahoo email accounts?
Yes.
